Photographer Wins $1.29M Lawsuit Against Getty, AEF

French courts have granted a photographer more than $1 million in damages from Getty Images and the Advertising Educational Foundation (AEF) for selling his images without his consent.

French photographer Alain Ernoult went to court in 2001 for a number of charges against AEF, including the unauthorized sale of his pictures. In the end, the courts ruled that a total of $1.29 million should be paid to Ernoult, with $600,000 coming from Getty for “marketing some of his photographs for advertising ends — ads for Toshiba, Peugeot, or Air France — in violation of the agreement signed with him.”
