The Pentax Optio Z10 is an 8-megapixel compact equipped with a a 7X optical zoom lens that covers focal lengths from 6.3 to 44.1mm (that’s 38-266mm in 35mm equivalent). This longish zoom is enabled by a refraction lens system that allows the lens to zoom in and out without protruding.
This camera was announced last August 23rd and is expected to come out mid-October with a price of $250.
The Optio Z10 touts its Face Recognition function that’s meant to automatically adjust the focus and set the exposure so users may capture photos of people easily. In addition, this function can detect the faces of up to 15 people at once, and the detection time has been reduced to approximately 0.03 seconds at minimum.
It also features Digital Shake Reduction, whatever that means (maybe it intends to shake the binary digits inside its chips). The company says it adjusts ISO to as high as 3200 to match the brightness of the subjects.
It looks like one good camera, though, with its 2.5-inch LCD and fine body styling.
