Pentax Celebrates 50 Years With a Design Study Model

Asahi Pentax DSLR Design Study Model

Pentax is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year by launching what it calls a “design study model” of a digital SLR with the tentative name of ‘Asahi Pentax.’

The prototype camera is based on the K10D, but its viewfinder harks back to 1957 when the very first Asahi Pentax camera appeared. That was the first Japanese SLR with a fixed pentaprism viewfinder, thus the name Pentax.

The built-in flash was removed from this design study model, and in its place is the characteristic delta roof for Asahi Pentax AP.

You can’t have this camera. It’s just a design study model in celebration of Pentax’s contribution to SLR photography.
