Panasonic Lumix FZ8 with 12x Optical Zoom

Panasonic Lumix FZ8 with 12x Optical Zoom

You might think announcing this after Olympus’ own unveiling of its SP-550 18X Ultra Zoom is a bit anti-climactic, but no, check it out, the Panasonic Lumix FZ8 just might have some strengths of its own.

Consider the specs: 7.2 megapixels, Leica lens, optical image stabilizer, joystick control for focusing and exposure setting and a 12x optical zoom, that with a little trick of its own can extend to 18x. In 3-megapixel resolution mode, the Extra Optical Zoom function uses the centre part of the CCD to provide additional magnification, extending the zoom power to 18x.

Panasonic says with its high-end features the Lumix DMC-FZ8 offers optical excellence from its F2.8 to F3.3 aperture to its 12x zoom.

The company also introduced today the other Panasonic debutantes: DMC-LZ6 & LS7, the DMC-FX30, DMC-FX10 & DMC-FX-12. DMC-LS75 & LS60, DMC-TZ2 & TZ3; ten models in all, each offering its own unique advantage to the consumer.
