Olympus Japan announced today a super wide-angle zoom lens, the ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 9-18mm f4.0-5.6, compliant with the Four Thirds system. The new lens covers a wide focusing range equivalent to 18-36 mm on a 35-mm camera lens. It weighs just 280g and measures a very compact 73mm.
The ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 9-18mm f4.0-5.6 is perfect for Olympus DSLRs such as the E-3, E-510 and the newly announced E-520. The company said the built-in image stabilizers in these cameras enable super wide-angle handheld shooting at a focal distance equivalent to 18 mm on a 35-mm camera lens without using a tripod even at night.
The release of the new lens is still far off down the road; it will be launched before the year ends, says Olympus. Pricing is yet to be announced.
