Olympus Imaging Corporation today announced the expansion of its E-System by launching two new DSLRs, four new lenses and a new teleconverter. But where is the successor to the flagship E-1 digital SLR?

Not yet ready for prime time obviously. Olympus however indicated that the yet unnamed successor to the E-1 DSLR “will make its debut this year.”

That would have been the headliner in a three-camera launch to coincide with PMA 2007 which opens on Thursday. Two have been unveiled – the E-410 and the E-510 – touting a live view mode which is new to digital SLRs. The Olympus E-330 demonstrated the feature’s success.

The E-410 and E-510 DSLRs will make it to PMA 2007, along with Olympus’s three new lenses with Supersonic Wave Drive, a 70-300mm telephoto lens and a 2x teleconverter.

In all, the Olympus E-System has grown to include 17 Zuiko Digital lenses, and a wide range of accessories including a teleconverter lens and an extension tube, with sales of more than one million units worldwide.
