Olympus E-3 Review by PhotographyBLOG

Olympus E-3 DSLR Camera

PhotographyBLOG’s Gavin Stoker writes, “…Olympus has pinned its hopes on the E-3 as its most serious digital contender to date. Still, the amount of time you’ll spend penitently wading through the manual will reward you with some seriously good images. Colours are lovely and true-to-nature, and although Olympus may not have quite cracked the old white balance conundrum when faced with tricky conditions, at least you can work around it.”

Gavin notes that while the Four Thirds format earlier touted its advantage of being able to make smaller and lighter DSLRs, the E-3’s heft is more in line with “the likes of the Canon 40D, Nikon D300, and Sony A700 – and, weighing them up in the palm, either matches or exceeds them for body-only weight,” which of course is not entirely a bad thing as the camera feels more solid in the hand.

The E-3 DSLR boasts the fastest autofocus speed when used with the new Supersonic Wave Drive lenses. It also brags about its blazing shutter speed of up to 1/8000th of a second and 5fps continuous shooting with 19 Raw image buffer. The 10-megapixel E-3 retails for $1,700 body only.
