Olympus Debuts the E-520 DSLR

Olympus E-520 DSLR Camera

Olympus UK today announced the new E-520 DSLR, succeeding the E-510 before it. It doesn’t update much; the megapixel count is still the same at 10MP. The in-body image stabilizer is also still there plus a few others that made the E-510 likeable.

What it adds is a contrast detection AF which allows autofocus changes to now be seen directly on the display, which incidentally has been expanded a little from 2.5” to 2.7”.

The new E-520 now also features Face Detection and Shadow Adjustment Technology to make it more appealing to the consumer upgrading from a compact digital camera.

Wireless flash is a more useful addition to its feature set. It allows remote triggering of such strobes as the wireless FL-36R and FL-50R.

The Olympus E-520 belongs in the Four Thirds camp. It will start showing up in store shelves next month at a retail price of £480 for the body only, that’s about $900 for UK folks. In the US, the price will only be about $600 for the body; add a good 14-42mm kit lens and the price bumps up to only $700.
