NY Times: Nikon Superzoom VR Lens is Magic

Of course it’s not very often that New York Times columnists write a review for a camera lens, so when one of them does I have to pin my ears back and take note.

David Pogue is no stranger to gadgets, as he is The Times’s technology columnist, but an SLR lens is something that can’t exactly be called just a gadget (photogs are more reverent about something so expensive) so I’ll just have to trust his visual acuity.

David says the Nikon 18-200 millimeter “superzoom” VR lens is just magic. I guess he’s referring to the Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED-IF AF-S VR DX Zoom-Nikkor (will they ever shorten this?) zoom lens.

He babbles about how good it is to have a superzoom that covers the whole nine yards so you don’t have to change lenses often; about how pretty his kids are because he can now take pretty pictures; and especially about how wonderful VR technology is.

Read his column. He differentiates VR from any other image stabilization technique, like only he can.
