Nikon Slips Out D3x Specs on Nikon Pro Magazine

Nikon has indeed officially confirmed the existence of its much-rumored D3x DSLR by way of its very official Nikon Pro magazine. One of those who received their copies early was photographer Seb Rogers who promptly posted the D3x specs and pictures on his website.

The lowdown: the new Nikon flagship features a 24.5-megapixel FX sensor (35.9 x 24mm, full format) with crop modes in 5:4 and DX. In DX crop mode, the camera captures 10MP files at up to 7fps. At full res, continuous shooting is at 5 frames per second. It’s got Live View, but there’s no mention of HD movie capability; it’s apparently targeted at pros who exclusively shoot only stills.

Other specs: a 3 inch LCD screen with 922k dots, ISO range of 50-6400, 16-bit EXPEED image processor, new Extra High D-lighting setting and a 51-point autofocus system.

Nikon’s move is seen as trying to share some limelight with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II which is beginning to trickle into buyers’ hands now. The Nikon D3x is scheduled to make its official launch this Monday, December 1.
