Nikon EXPEED

EXPEED is Nikon’s new 16-bit image processor now being used in the company’s recently announced flagship D3 and D300 digital SLR cameras.

The new image processor will also be made part of all future Nikon DSLR and Coolpix compact cameras.

Nikon says that with the new D3 DSLR, the EXPEED’s 14-bit A/D conversion and 16-bit image processing enable rich and varied gradation, and high-definition, high-quality images, utilizing the wide dynamic range of the Nikon FX-format CMOS image sensor. It also claims to improve shooting speed and memory card writing speed plus other enhancements brought about by the new EXPEED and the D3’s new image sensor.

Speaking of the image sensor, would you know who manufactured the D3’s image sensor?
