Nikon Bares Enhancements in Capture NX 1.3

Nikon Capture NX

Nikon’s Capture NX has been updated to version 1.3 and it costs $120 if you buy it (because it didn’t come with your D80 or D40). It is bundled free, however, for buyers of the new D3 and D300 SLR cameras.

The updated Capture NX 1.3 has a few significant enhancements, aside of course from support for the D3 and D300:

  • 1. A Picture Control has been added to Camera Adjustments in the Base Adjustments. The Color Mode, Tone Compensation, Saturation, and Sharpening items in Camera Adjustments, as well as the Hue Adjustment in RAW Adjustments, have been moved to the new Picture Control item.
  • 2. An Active D-Lighting item has been added to RAW Adjustments in the Base Adjustments. This feature is only available with RAW images captured with Active D-Lighting enabled.
  • 3. The White Balance item has been moved to RAW Adjustments in the Base Adjustments, and Sodium Vapor Lamps and High Temperature Mercury.
  • 4. RAW images can now be saved with lossless compression. Images captured in lossless-compressed RAW format can now be saved in lossless-compressed RAW format, regardless of camera model. (Limited to use with images captured with Nikon digital-SLR cameras).
  • 5. The Vignette Control function, which was previously for use only with RAW images, is now supported with JPEG and TIFF images. (Limited to use with images captured by Nikon digital -SLR cameras).
  • 6. The function for modifying images captured with a fisheye lens, available in Lens Adjustments in the Base Adjustments, is now compatible with images captured with the AF Fisheye-Nikkor 16mm f/2.8D.

The 1.3 update is for both Windows and Mac versions. A trial version is also available for download.
