Napa Valley Wineries Fight Wine Fraud with Kodak Help

Kodak Traceless Readers

Good old Kodak is not just about pretty photos, of course. They are now also helping Napa Valley wine producers protect their brands – and their customers – from fake wines.

Colgin Cellars, HL Vineyards, Vineyard 29 and Staglin Family Vineyard are employing Kodak security solutions to guard against counterfeit wine.

The company’s anti-counterfeiting technology is called Kodak Traceless, a forensically invisible authentication technology that protects against fraud and counterfeiting. Kodak says it is easy to implement and integrates into a wide range of materials with no disruption to product design or production processes.

It is basically a printing solution that works with Kodak special printers and just about any printer you have. The other element of the security solution is Kodak’s proprietary marker material that can be mixed with printing inks or the printing media itself, and it can be detected or read only by Kodak’s own Traceless Readers.

Kodak said the security solution can be tailor-made for individual clients and is virtually impossible to reverse-engineer.
