One of the features of the Vista operating that can be useful to photographers (for weekend snappers, at least) is the Windows Photo Gallery. You can use it to organize your photos and do basic photo editing.

Now, Microsoft is taking that a step higher with Windows Live Photo Gallery. It’s in beta testing now and it will be a free download when it comes out…well, live.

What it does is it improves on the way people share their photos online, according to Microsoft. The Windows Live Photo Gallery, which can now also run on Windows XP SP2, enables you to select a bunch of photos, and publish them directly to your Windows Live Space, so you stick with Microsoft because you’re such a very loyal fan.

It also offers a better way to import photos, better than how they offered it to you before. What else? There’s panoramic stitching to take a set of overlapping photos and stitch them into one panoramic photo, more photo fixes, and simplified navigation (because they made it a bit complicated before).

The Windows Live Photo Gallery is coming out soon as part of the Windows Live Suite of applications. Its siblings are Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Messenger, Windows Live Toolbar, Windows Live Writer, Windows Live OneCare Family Safety…the list goes on.
