Microsoft and Phase One Join Forces to Improve Position in Pro Photography

Microsoft Corp. and Phase One are looking for ways to improve digital imaging solutions for professional photographers and enthusiasts.

The companies announced that they will work together to develop solutions for the Microsoft Windows platform that further innovation in the digital photography space. The alliance combines Phase One’s industry expertise with Microsoft’s widely used platform technology and includes technology sharing and intellectual property assets as well as joint marketing.

Microsoft wants to leverage its Windows Vista, HD Photo, Photosynth, Digital Image Suite and other products to provide solutions for professional photographers and enthusiasts alike.

Phase One for its part wants to harness its digital image capture and workflow management technology, such as Capture One, in professional photography.

In short, they don’t want to be left out of the market which is now being dominated by Adobe’s Lightroom and Apple’s Aperture.
