Micron RealSSD Solid State Drive

Micron Technology, Inc. has entered the growing solid state drive (SSD) market by announcing its RealSSD family of products.

Micron’s RealSSD line include 1.8-inch and 2.5-inch SSDs for notebook and desktop computing applications which will be offered in 32-gigabyte (GB) and 64-gigabyte densities. Micron is now sampling both devices with mass production expected in the first quarter of 2008.

RealSSD products support native SATA II interface for improved performance and consume less than 2 watts of power while active.

Micron also announced its RealSSD Embedded USB products range (1GB to 8GB) designed to be integrated into a system through an embedded USB 2.0 interface. This provides a solution to store and boot an entire operating system within an industrial PC or blade server system or it could be used as a reserve for often accessed files.
