Micron Announces Faster Hi-Def Image Sensors

Micron MT9P401 5MP CMOS Image Sensor

Micron Technology has expanded its line of imaging sensors with a pair of high-definition CMOS sensors for digital cameras and camcorders.

Its new 5-megapixel MT9P401 sensor, pictured above, is designed for hybrid cameras that capture both high-resolution still photos and high-definition video. Micron says this 1/2.5-inch sensor can capture HD video at 60 frames per second (fps) in 720p (progressive) format. For burst-mode the sensor snaps 15 still photos in rapid sequence.

The 1.6-megapixel 1/4.5-inch MT9M002 sensor can capture 60 fps in 720p format and delivers excellent low noise performance, according to Micron. The MT9M002 is designed to work with the long-range zoom lenses (10x to 30x) typically used in digital camcorders.
