Me vs. Playboy

Colleen Shannon Photo

If I sued Playboy, will they give me my money? I shot the high school photos of those kids; do I own the copyright to those pictures without those kids signing away their claims?

Carla Calkins, a studio owner in California probably thinks so that’s why she’s suing Playboy magazine for using the high school photo she took of one senior who became a Playboy bunny. Calkins said Playboy used her photo of Colleen Shannon, who’s now famous as “The World’s Sexiest DJ,” in the magazine’s 50th anniversary issue without permission. Shannon too was included in the lawsuit for giving Playboy her high school portrait.

Wish you luck, Carla. But it was Shannon’s photo wasn’t it, and she could not have signed any quit claim then because she probably was still a minor. On the other hand, you have a perfect legal right to protect your livelihood, so go, girl.
