Marine Photog Seeks Shy Giant Squid

Call him intrepid, or call him nuts, but this photographer says he plans to go 3000m under the sea to capture a picture of the giant squid. He’s a marine biologist so he must know what he’s trying to do. His name is Peter Batson, and he runs a New Zealand company, Explore The Abyss Ltd, with his father.

This guy Batson had participated in marine expeditions to the wrecks of the Titanic and the battleship Bismarck, so he really must know what he’s up to.

But the giant squid is big and scary and it has a beak that could crush a monkey’s head in one snap, even cables of steel. Also, this creature is very camera shy, so photographing the beast may not exactly be like a walk in the park.

“Initially we’ll be looking off New Zealand and then South Australia which are giant squid hot spots,” Mr Batson said in all seriousness.

Well, good luck, Peter. If you don’t find any giant squid, call the Photoshop guys; they can always upsize any squid you find, easy.
