Livescribe: Pen Computing, Again

Livescribe Pen Computer

Entrepreneur Jim Marggraff is introducing his own version of a pen computer, the Livescribe, which he says will revolutionize the way people take notes.

To demonstrate, Marggraff jots down a few notes while talking with a visitor. The conversation taking place is being recorded in the pen as they speak. After the conversation, he taps the pen on a word written halfway down the page; the pen instantly replays the conversation at the point where that word was uttered.

Then he docks the pen to upload the notes and audio of the conversation to his notebook PC. From there, he said, he can organize his notes, search through them, replay the audio or send them by email.

In another demonstration, Marggraff hands out his business card to a person saying that anything he writes with a Livescribe pen on the back of the business card will soon find its way to his email inbox. The surface of his business card contains tiny, almost invisible, dots that work in tandem with the Livescribe.

“Calling it pen computing is a misnomer,” Marggraff says. “We are creating paper-based computing.”
