Lexar Announces Crucial 32GB, 64GB Solid State Drives and SK01 External Storage Kit

Crucial Solid State Drive from Lexar Media

Lexar Media today announced its line of Crucial SSDs (solid state drives) in capacities of 32GB and 64GB. These are available in SATA 3.0Gbps 2.5-inch drive enclosures.

Lexar said solid state drives are more durable, require less power, and offer greater overall system performance than traditional hard disk drives. It adds that Crucial SSDs have no spin-up time, seek time, or rotational latency, resulting in faster system boot times and application load times.

Crucial SK01 External Storage Kit

Lexar Media is also offering the Crucial SK01 external storage kit which is sold separately from the Crucial SSD. It aims to deliver the benefits of SSD technology to desktop PC users. The kit includes a 2.5-inch USB 2.0 external enclosure for notebook-sized HDDs and a SATA 3Gbps interface 3.5-inch hot-swappable drive bay to allow for SSD integration into your PC. It also comes with a 5.25-inch drive bay bracket in case the user does not have a spare 3.5-inch drive bay.

The new products will be available in the first quarter of 2008.
