Kodak Printers Get Stellar WIR Ratings on Permanence

Kodak EasyShare 5300 All-in-One Inkjet Printer

Kodak claims that their EasyShare All-in-One inkjet printers can produce photos that last more than a hundred years. Actually, they just don’t claim that; the independent WIR (Wilhelm Imaging Research) confirms that.

A WIR report dated January 29, 2008 indicated Kodak EasyShare AiO Printers and ink achieved the highest level of overall print permanence of any current consumer desktop printer system.

The Kodak printers, ink and media achieved WIR Display Permanence Ratings and Album/Dark Storage Ratings of greater than 125 years. WIR Unprotected Ozone Resistance Ratings (for example, prints placed on refrigerators) of more than 100 years were also reported.

WIR tests also showed that the Kodak prints are very resistant to damage in high-humidity conditions and, even when printed on plain paper, the prints can survive exposure to accidental water spills.

While proud of that WIR print permanence rating, Kodak still wants you to be aware that their all-in-one printers offer the lowest cost in terms of ink usage, charts here. Anybody want to comment on image print quality?
