HP Indigo 5000 Press

HP today said more than 2.5 million photo books and calendars were printed worldwide on HP Indigo presses during the 2006 holiday season alone.

There are about 240 HP Indigo presses installed at customer sites around the world, and HP figures show that in all of 2006 about 440 million digital photo pages were printed on these Indigo presses. That total went into the printing of more than 7 million photo books and calendars, according to HP.

HP Indigo presses are high-volume commercial printers designed for demanding production environments. Among the users of Indigo presses who are experiencing high growth at this time are Asukanet Co. Ltd. of Japan, District Photo based in Beltsville, Md., Proven Direct of Menomonee Falls, WI and Snapfish by HP.

Photo specialty products which include photo books and calendars appear to be experiencing phenomenal growth at present. The Photo Marketing Association (PMA) forecasts that the photo merchandise market is expected to more than double in size in the next two years and is approaching $1 billion in sales.
