Hasselblad H3D: Quality for Your Money

Hasselblad H3D

This is the world according to Hasselblad: the world has adopted digital SLR photography, but there is no camera out there right now that has the image quality and flexibility required by the most demanding professional photographers. Only Hasselblad can provide this DSLR.

Enter: the Hasselblad H3D. With it, the company hopes to position itself like it used to in the film photography world – proud, dominant and exclusive.

The H3D is touted by Hasselblad as the world’s first 48mm full-frame DSLR camera system, although some doubt it truly is. DPreview (see link below) says the digital back part of the camera features a 48 x 36 mm sensor “which sounds to us like two full-frame 35 mm sensors stitched together.”

It will be available with either 22 or 39 state-of-the-art megapixels with so much of the other high-end features that the company calls the Hasselblad Star Quality standard: waist-level viewfinder, ultra-focus and DAC, single shot interpolation, natural color solution, digital noise reduction; all of them, and then some.

For storage, you can use your largest and fastest CF card, or the 100GB Hasselblad image bank via Firewire, or with a tethered computer attached. In some extreme cases, where only film will do, you can switch to film.

Top-of-the-line Hasselblad: if you have to ask how much it will cost, you can’t afford it.
