Fujifilm to Release FinePix F50fd in September

Fujifilm FinePix F50fd Digital Camera

Fujifilm announced seven new cameras today but what immediately caught our attention was the FinePix F50fd, the latest iteration of the highly acclaimed F31fd which inaugurated the face detection feature in Fujifilm cameras.

The F50fd looks impressive on paper: 12 megapixels, 7th generation Super CCD with a 3.0x optical zoom and a 2.7″ high-resolution 230,000 pixel wide angle view LCD. It also boasts Dual Image Stabilization, Face Detection 2.0 Technology with Automatic Red Eye Removal function, and ISO settings of up to ISO 6400.

Twelve megapixels? What did you do, Fuji, cram all those pixels tightly, knowing that doing so will only produce noisy photos? What technological magic did you do to counteract that?

And ISO 6400? Come on. Real world usage of even the best digital cameras cannot produce usable photos beyond IS0 800, even with the very competent F31fd.

But we’re crossing our fingers that you’re right, Fuji. After all, we only wish you the best. Let’s wait for the reviews to come in then, come September.
