Flash: Metz 58 AF-1 with USB

Metz 58 AF-1

The coolest thing about the new Metz 58 AF-1 flash is the inclusion of a USB port for compatibility with future flash technology.

But there are other features just as exciting: the Metz 58 AF-1 also offers a unique second reflector which can now be used in Full TTL mode with varying output to ¼ power to add a fill light to your subject when “bouncing” the main flash head.

Another: the main head of the flashgun tilts and swivels with a reflector card and wide angle diffuser giving better control together with a zoom head range of 24-105mm.

Others: a simple control menu via LCD screen, E-TTL or i-TTL compatibility with both Manual and Auto aperture modes, a modelling mode to judge the shadow cast by your subject, strobe mode for capturing fast action sequences as well as a new AF assist facility with a wide area AF illuminator for accurate low light performance.

Canon ETTL-II and Nikon iTTL users can expect dedicated 58 AF-1’s for their cameras from early November.

It will sell for about $580.
