Digital Textile Printing is Growing

Bi-monthly publication Textile Outlook International reports that digital technology is the fastest growing method of printing on textiles. Their figures show a 300 percent growth between from 2000 to 2005, when digitally printed textile output reached 70 million square meters.

Screen printing however still dominates the textile printing industry with 80 percent of worldwide output, and digital accounts for only 1 percent at this time. But growth trajectory for digital printing points to a 10 percent share by the early part of the next decade.

Much of the increase will be due to improvements in digital printing technology, such as better printheads and ink dispersion techniques, according to TOI.

More textile manufacturers are now also able to provide PFP (prepared for print) fabrics to digital printers. Advances in pigment-based inks will also contribute to the growth of digital textile printing.
