With the growing number of companies getting into the digital photo frames business, you’d think the market is saturated. Far from it; demand for digital photo frames is increasing even further.

The prognosis from Taiwan’s Industrial Economics and Knowledge Center (IEK) is that the demand for digital photo frames is expected to increase to 20 million units in 2008, a 66 percent jump from 12 million units in 2007.

This is driven, according to IEK, by improving technology and falling prices. Demand for low-priced digital photo frames in North America has helped drive sales, with models priced as low as under-US$49, while higher-end models are now being introduced with features such as video, music, and other applications such as calendars and news feeds.

North America and Europe currently account for 80% of the global market but shipments in Asia are expected to increase in 2008.
