Philippe Chancel Photo of Korean Lady Guide

The Photographers’ Gallery in London is currently exhibiting the works of the four finalists in the “Deutsche Börse Photography Prize 2007.”

On exhibit are:

The photographs of Philippe Chancel (France) taken in North Korea in 2005, showing lively colors that provide a link between art, documentation and journalism;

The pictures of Anders Petersens (Sweden) from his “About Gap” and “St Etienne” series showing the rugged charm and poetic melancholy of the two cities in southern France, taken in 2005;

The “Mirror Maker” exhibit of Fiona Tan (Indonesia), which combines elements of photography and film to focus on human beings and their cultural origins; and

The “Atlas Group Project” by Walid Raad (Lebanon), created between 1989 and 2004, which documents contemporary Lebanese history using photographic and video material.

One of the four will get the top prize of £30,000 (about $60,000) during the awarding rites on March 21 at the gallery. The Deutsche Börse Photography Prize is awarded yearly to a photographer who has made a key contribution to European contemporary photography over the past year.
