Delaware Art Museum Presents Frida Kahlo: Through the Lens of Nickolas Muray

Frida Kahlo Photo by Nickolas Muray

Photographs of the Mexican-born artist Frida Kahlo (1907-1954) will be on exhibit from February 2 to March 30, 2008 in the Brock J. Vinton Galleries, Delaware Art Museum in Wilmington, Delaware.

The photos were all taken from 1937 to 1941 by Hungarian-born commercial photographer Nickolas Muray who, even then, already experimented with color photography.

Frida Kahlo herself was a colorful figure known for her deeply personal and richly colored paintings. Muray’s photographs of Kahlo celebrate her deep interest in her Mexican heritage, her life, and the people significant to her. The Delaware exhibit is part of a 2 ½-year tour around the United States.
