Ottawa-based Corel Corporation has won the American PHOTO Editor’s Choice Award in the Imaging Software category for its Corel Painter X application.

“We are honored that American PHOTO has recognized Corel Painter X as one of the industry’s best imaging software solutions,” said Nick Davies, General Manager, Graphics and Productivity for Corel.

The company describes its Corel Painter X as a powerful tool that lets photographers apply a range of painterly effects to their images that is far more extensive and varied than what they get from typical image editors.

For novices, the imaging software offers the Smart Stroke feature which Corel says applies brushstrokes automatically in keeping with the photo’s internal shapes, “which it does with a surprisingly human touch,” according to the company.

American PHOTO’s Editor’s Choice awards are conferred annually by American Photo and Popular Photography & Imaging. The awards honor the industry’s best photography products.
