CompactFlash Association to Develop SATA CF Cards

CompactFlash Association Logo

The CompactFlash Association (CFA) plans to take the card format to a new level by connecting it with the SATA (Serial ATA) interface.

The SATA interface is expected to provide even faster interface data rates as well as compatibility with the SATA disk drive interfaces that are increasingly being used. The SATA interface will replace the current PATA (parallel ATA) interface which provides up to 133MBps data transfer rate.

A working group of the CFA is now being formed to carry out the new technical specifications and development of the CF SATA interface.

CompactFlash cards are currently in use in over 360 digital cameras, over 165 handheld/palm-size PCs and over 705 other electronic platforms including embedded systems, single board computers, data recorders, heart monitors, defibrillators and other devices.
