Casio Unveils New Flagship Camera

Casio Exilim Zoom EX-Z1200 Digital Camera

Casio Europe today announced the newest model in its series of Exilim digital cameras, the Exilim Zoom EX-Z1200, featuring 12.1 megapixels, auto-tracking AF with motion analysis and a CCD-shift anti-shake mechanism that should deliver true image stabilization.

The EX-Z1200 is Casio’s new flagship Exilim Zoom, updating the 10.1-megapixel EX-Z1000 which was released last year.

The new camera has impressive specs, at least on paper. Aside from the 12.1 megapixels and CCD-shift IS system, it boasts of the latest Exilim Engine 2.0 image processing module with motion analysis. What this does is automatically analyze the speed and direction of a moving subject and sets the optimal ISO setting and shutter speed to capture a perfect picture. It also packs an anti-shake DSP which aims to reduce blur by switching to higher shutter speeds and light sensitivity settings when the camera detects movement.

Casio’s own version of face detection, Face Sensing Engine which is provided by OKI, is incorporated in its auto-tracking AF system.

Its 2.8-inch LCD screen is also a nice touch, rounding off the flagship features of the new Casio EX-Z1200. The size of its image sensor? 1/1.7 square inch packing in a total of 12.39 million pixels. It’s a bit crowded for the poor little pixels, don’t you think?
