Canon USA Offers to Fix Defective EOS-1D Mark III

Canon EOS-1D Mark III with AF Problem

Canon USA today issued a service notice acknowledging and offering to fix the autofocus mirror adjustment problem with the professional grade EOS-1D Mark III digital SLR camera.

Canon said, “After a thorough investigation, we have found that some EOS-1D Mark III cameras may have an issue with the mirror mechanism, which is part of the autofocus optical system. This issue may cause inconsistent focusing accuracy or inconsistent focus tracking with moving subjects when using AI-Servo AF and continuous shooting modes, particularly in high temperatures.”

The company said they will offer free repairs for the affected cameras and will be announcing details on their website soon.

The autofocus problem was first raised by photographer Rob Galbraith last June; it took Canon four months to finally acknowledge the AF issue with its $4000 camera.
