Canon Releases New Products, Officially Announces EOS-1Ds Mark III & EOS 40D SLRs

Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III Full Frame DSLR

Canon announced today the new EOS-1Ds Mark III full frame digital SLR camera with 21.1 megapixels resolution. The company also made official today its announcement of the much-rumored Canon EOS 40D SLR with headline features such as 10.1 megapixels, 3.0” LCD and 6.5fps continuous shooting.

The Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III, priced at $8000, features a compact magnesium alloy body that packs dual Digic III processors and the ability to shoot at a 5fps burst rate to capture 56 Large/Fine photos or 12 RAW images. It also boasts of a new Live View capability, advanced AF and the new EOS cleaning system.

The Canon 40D announcement meanwhile pretty much confirms what has previously been leaked as specs for the new camera as stated above. The 40D will ship early next month with a body-only price of $1300; it’s $1500 with Canon’s EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM zoom lens.

Also today, Canon announced a whole slew of compact cameras, scanners and photo printers. Among those announced were the G9, A650 IS and SD950 IS Digital ELPH cameras – all with 12.1-megapixel images sensors – and the other compacts like the A720 IS, SX100 IS and SD870 IS Digital ELPH with 8 megapixels.

The new Canon printers include three new office all-in-one (AIO) products, the Pixma MX700, MX310 and MX300. The new PIXMA mini320 Compact Photo Printer also debuted today, as well as three new AIO photo printers, the Pixma MP970, MP610 and MP520.

Lastly, two new scanners also made it to Canon’s list of product announcements today, the CanoScan 8800F and CanoScan LiDE90.
