Canon EOS-1D Mark III

Even before it can release version 1.09 of the firmware for the EOS-1D Mark III, Canon has announced the release of firmware version 1.10 for the top-of-the-line professional camera.

The announcement mentions some enhancements here and there, but no specific mention of the autofocus problem, just like their announcement of v.1.09.

The autofocus problem was raised by photographer and camera tester Rob Galbraith who said the Mark III has some AF issues when shooting under hot and bright conditions.

The latest announcement by Canon cites v.1.09 in the text, although there is no download link for that version which was supposed to be made available today, July 31.

What’s available is v.1.10 (1.1.0 according to Canon), a 9.88MB download with a posting date of July 30.

Among other things, v.1.10 is supposed to improve the look of images when enlarged on the LCD monitor and corrects errors in the Italian and Simplified Chinese menu screens.

Item 3 of the announcement, “Improves the tendency to focus too easily on the background when shooting in AI servo AF under certain conditions,” perhaps addresses Rob’s concerns, but I would not guess. Canon is not saying that specifically.
