Canon Powershot TX1 Digital Camera and Hi-Def Camcorder Combines Best of Both Worlds

Canon Powershot TX1

The Canon Powershot TX1 is a digital camera that takes 7.1-megapixel still photos. It is also a camcorder that shoots 30 fps High Definition (HD) 720p widescreen (16:9) movies, with CD quality 44kHz stereo sound too.

Its feature set puts most consumer digicams and camcorders to shame. Its clever vertical design accommodates a 10x optical zoom lens (39mm -390mm equivalent) that thoughtfully includes optical image stabilization to reduce blurs at long zooms. Its Digic III image processor gives it faster start up, autofocus and shutter response times, with improved image quality and more efficient power consumption.

The TX1 llikewise shines as a camcorder. Canon says in addition to recording widescreen 720p HD movies at a rate of 30 fps for stunning High Definition clarity, the TX1 digital camera shoots high-quality VGA (640 x 480 pixels) movies at 30 fps (in a traditional 4:3 aspect ratio) and has the option of shooting at 30 fps or 60 fps in the QVGA 320 x 240-pixel setting (also in 4:3 format).

The Canon Powershot TX1 has plenty of other high-end features that could make it a wonder camera deserving of its $500 price tag when it comes out in March. Watch out for its battery life, though. That Vari-Angle LCD screen could be a major drain.
