Canon Goes for Nagasaki Expansion, Sees Rosy Days Ahead for DSLR Cameras

Canon will begin construction of its factory in Nagasaki prefecture next month, with a plan to start producing digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras in April of next year.

Construction was originally planned for January 2009, with operations to start in December 2009, but was shelved due to a sharp decline in digital camera sales as a result of the global economic downturn.

As it turns out, the DSLR market is steadily recovering and is expected to show stable growth in the days ahead. The company decided to begin the construction of Nagasaki Canon upon assessing its production allocation for digital cameras from a mid- to long-term perspective.
