Canon EF200mm f/2L IS USM and EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM Lenses

Canon EF200mm f/2L IS USM Telephoto Lens

The new telephoto lenses from Canon are marvels in lens construction and design. The monstrous Canon EF200mm f/2L IS USM telephoto lens (pictured above), for instance, manages to tip the scale at only 5 ½ lbs (2.52kg) compared to the 6.6 lbs (3kg) of its predecessor, the renowned EF200mm f/1.8L USM telephoto lens, after adding an Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) system and weather-resistant elements.

That OIS, says Canon, enables shooting at slower shutter speeds in low-light photography including portraiture as well as indoor sports. The Canon EF200mm f/2L IS USM is an exceptionally sharp lens with a close-focus setting of 1.9 m/6.2 feet and a circular aperture system that enhances its background blur rendition at wide apertures.

The even bigger Canon EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM telephoto lens, meanwhile, boasts the longest focal length lens available with OIS. While adding 200mm more in its zoom range, the new lens is virtually the same physical size as the EF600mm f/4L IS USM (461mm vs. 456mm), while weighing nearly 2 lbs. less (4500g/9.9 lbs vs. 5360g/11.8 lbs).

The new Canon EF200mm f/2L IS USM is set to ship in April at an estimated retail price of $6,000 and the new Canon EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM is scheduled to be available in May for an estimated retail price of $12,000.
