Braun Releases 6 Compact Digicams, Ho-Hum…

Braun D800

Camera manufacturer Braun PhotoTechnik of Nuremberg, Germany has released six compact digital cameras aimed at the entry-level consumer market. However, tech website Engadget says the Braun offerings fail to impress.

Top of line is the D800, pictured above, an ultra-compact with a 6.2-megapixel image sensor, with an interpolated (!?) resolution of 8 megapixels. Maybe you should bite a red jalapeño to wake up to the fact that interpolation does nothing to improve your digital picture.

But it could be worth its price of €179 ($226) with its 2.4-inch LCD screen, 3x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom, another useless thing. More useful are its movie mode with audio, self-timer, voice recording function and 32MB of internal flash.

The others in the line-up are the D600 with the same specs but a smaller 2-inch LCD, the D504 which shoots at 5.3MP but interpolates to 10MP(!), the D410 with 4MP and 1.5-inch LCD (no interpolation, thank you), the D312 with 3.1MP but interpolates to 12MP(!!), and the D310 with 3.1MP CCD, 5MP interpolation and zero zoom.
