Book Review: Photosynthesis, A Simple Guide to the Magic of Photography

Photosynthesis, A Simple Guide to the Magic of Photography

Bryan Moss has released his book, Photosynthesis, A Simple Guide to the Magic of Photography. It’s not a technical book about f-stops, shutter speeds and lighting schemes; it’s a book that tells photographers how to think about what makes good photographs, according to the author.

And Jim McNay of the Brooks Institute of Photography says this is what photographers should be reading. If you buy only one photography book this year, he says, this is the book.

“Bryan Moss has now distilled much of his coaching and thinking into this volume. It contains a few pictures and some text. It has thoughts to occupy a lifetime,” McNay says.

Moss was a photographer and picture editor at several newspapers, including the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Jose Mercury News and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He and his wife Mary Jo Moss currently run the White Cloud Workshop.
