Big and Lovely: The 30” Samsung SyncMaster 305T

Samsung SyncMaster 305T

What would it be like to run Photoshop on a 30-inch LCD monitor? It will be a walk in the park, a very large park, with all of CS2’s interface visible and a lot more room to spare. The latest offering from Samsung, the SyncMaster 305T, is riding on new wave of large monitors brought up lately by Apple and Dell.

This appetite for large monitors comes mainly from graphics, medical and engineering professionals. The SyncMaster 305T’s price ($2000) is at par with Apple’s Cinema but about $500 more than Dell’s 3007WFP. However, a close inspection of Samsung’s specs might justify the extra cost. First, it’s a very big display: 2560×1600 resolution (4 megapixels), over three times the resolution of a 17-inch or 19-inch monitor with 1280×1024, considerably larger than running dual displays.

Other notable specs are the 305T’s 16:10 aspect ratio, 400cd/m2 brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio, and grey-to-grey response time of just 6ms, beating out the Dell’s 12ms. The secret could be Samsung own proven S-PVA technology, rather than the LG-made panel used by Dell.
