Adobe CEO Chizen Bows Out, Narayen Takes Over

Shantanu Narayen, Incoming CEO Adobe Systems, Inc.

The board of directors of Adobe Systems, Inc. has chosen Shantanu Narayen as new Chief Executive Officer, replacing outgoing chief Bruce Chizen.

Narayen is currently Adobe president and chief operating officer. He takes over as CEO on December 1, 2007.

Narayen joined Adobe as vice president and general manager of engineering in 1998. He was promoted the following year to senior vice president, and in January 2005 he assumed his current titles.

In making his announcement to “take a break,” the 52-year-old Chizen said, “As much as I love Adobe products and employees, I didn’t want to find myself at 55 saying, ‘Gee, I wish I had done something else besides Adobe.’ The role of C.E.O. is all-consuming.”

Chizen has captained Adobe to the new heights it is enjoying today. In his 7-year watch, Adobe collected record profits. Its profits for the 3rd quarter ending August 31 soared to a record $851.7 million.
