ZINK, Polaroid Agree to Develop New Products; Aren’t They One and the Same?

Polaroid Digital Instant Mobile Photo Printer

ZINK Imaging and Polaroid Corporation are joining forces to develop a new family of printing products that leverage ZINK Imaging’s ink-free printing technology.

It’s an interesting partnership: the Zink (for “zero-ink”) technology was developed in the laboratories of Polaroid before the company declared bankruptcy. Zink Imaging picked it up and ventured outside of Polaroid; now, Polaroid is back in business with Zink and just might revive its old expertise – instant printed photos in the digital age.

The first Polaroid-branded ZINK-enabled product is a pocket-sized mobile printer that produces borderless full color 2”x3” peel-and-stick ZINK photos from digital cameras and camera phones. This will be called the Polaroid Digital Instant Mobile Photo Printer and will be available in the first half of this year.

What could be next? Add a camera to this Zink printer and what do you have? Why a digital Polaroid camera, of course!

Come to think of it: what’s wrong with the original Polaroid? Just replace that old analog camera with digital because the good old printer worked fine and you could say Polaroid never really went away.
