Yousuf Karsh Photographs at Kresge Art Museum

Sir Winston Churchill by Yousuf Karsh

Gadget frenzy at CES 2007 stressing you out? Take a break, please. Visit the Kresge Art Museum and view some soothingly reassuring photographs from generations back.

The Kresge Art Museum at Michigan State University (MSU) is hosting Yousuf Karsh Photographs, from January 8 to March 18, 2007. You may draw strength from the pillars of the 20th century there: Winston Churchill, Albert Einstein, Ernest Hemingway, Andy Warhol, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Frank Lloyd Wright, all photographed by the Armenian-born Canadian legend.

How did he get Churchill to pose with such a defiant scowl? The story is told that the photographer took Churchill’s cigar to the vehement objection of the Prime Minister, and at the very precise moment clicked his camera. Timing, my boy, timing.

Michigan too far for you? Well, the museum’s website is the next best thing. The magic of the Web will take you there.
