Why Would Kodak Turn Away from Low-End Cameras?

Kodak CEO Antonio Perez

Why would Kodak want to leave the low end of the camera business?

“As everyone knows, we’re not making much money there,” quipped Kodak CEO Antonio Perez at last week’s JPMorgan Technology Conference in Boston.

They’d be concentrating instead on making cameras with their own CMOS sensor which Kodak has been developing with IBM. They also plan to embed the sensor in Motorola cell phones.

Perez said, “Our CMOS sensors have been well advancing for many years. And now we will have the ability to embed the sensor in the phone with all the richness we have with our imaging software.”
