Western Digital 1TB MyBook Home Server

Western Digital Corp. has a host of shared storage appliances that let consumers and home office folks access digital content – photos, videos and documents – and share them with family and friends anywhere in the world. It’s like having your own FTP server at home, only simpler and easier.

Topping the list of Western Digital’s shared storage appliances is the MyBook World Edition II, packing 1TB (terabyte) of storage capacity. Inside are two 500GB hard disk drives in a dual-drive configuration with RAID capability.

The MyBook WEII is equipped with WD Anywhere Access software featuring Data OnHand, which allows easy access by being active in Windows Explorer and Windows “Save As” and “Open” options whenever the user is connected to the Internet.

The storage appliance is plugged into the main computer in a configuration that makes it independent, giving the user the choice to make it accessible via the Internet even if the host computer is not powered on.
