Wacom Unwraps Bamboo and Bamboo Fun Pen Tablets

Wacom Bamboo and Bamboo Fun Pen Tablets

Wacom Technology Corp. is introducing more affordable versions of their consumer pen tablets called the Bamboo (the black one) and Bamboo Fun.

There are no bamboo parts in these tablets, they are so named after the first writing instruments in Asia; Wacom says the new Bamboo and Bamboo Fun reinvent the pen for the 21st century and offer new inking freedoms for our era.

Both Bamboo and Bamboo Fun feature four programmable ExpressKeys to customize commonly used commands, such as Undo or Copy. A finger-sensitive Touch Ring has been positioned to allow for quick and easy zooming and scrolling.

The company says its textured work surface provides an intuitive pen-on-paper feel, while the ergonomic pens allow users to experience seemingly unlimited levels of pressure sensitivity, to create variations of pen strokes, from fine lines to bold brush marks.

The Bamboo has a suggested retail price of $80 ($69 at Wacom’s site). The Bamboo Fun, which also includes a matching mouse, is available in two sizes, Small for $100 and Medium for $200.

Now, if you’re Deke McClellan or Bert Monroy, you’ll go for the Intuos ($750) or Cintiq ($2500) models.
