Vivitar Name Lives On�With Sakar

Sakar who? Sakar International is a 30-year-old company based in Edison, NJ. They recently bought the 70-year-old Vivitar brand after the latter filed for bankruptcy. Sakar makes digital cameras and stuff for kids that retail from $20 to $100.

Sakar announced today that they have acquired the Vivitar brand name and associated intellectual property from Syntax-Brillian Corporation, Vivitar’s parent company.

With the Vivitar name, Sakar hopes to expand its market by selling cameras in the $70 to $300 price range. The company also plans to add other Vivitar-branded products, including camera accessories and digital photo frames, as well as explore licensing opportunities in various categories. Sakar currently holds licenses for major brand franchises including Crayola, Hello Kitty, Star Wars, Leap Frog, Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Jeep, Made for iPod and For Dummies.
