VIA Introduces VESA Mounted PC for LCD Monitors

Some people use the PC’s LCD screen to display advertising, signage, timetable boards, etc. but the bulky CPU box has always presented a problem for space-constrained applications.

VIA Technologies offers a solution to this problem by introducing the VIA vm7700 VESA mounted PC (vmpc); it turns a standard display panel into a fully functional PC for signage, kiosk and other intelligent display applications.

So now you can use any old LCD, from small desktop monitors to larger flat-panel displays for the purpose, and not worry about space because the vm7700 is small, with a chassis that measures only 26 x 180 x 298mm. It attaches behind the user’s screen of choice.

The VIA vmpc vm7700 uses the industry-standard Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) 10cm x 10cm mounting specification for simple attachment at the back of the screen and offers cost savings when upgrading or replacing screens.

Equipped with a 1.0GHz VIA C7 or 1.5GHz VIA Eden ULV processor and the ultra low power VIA CX700M2 system media processor, the vm7700 consumes only a maximum of 12 watts at a low 45ºC thermal envelope, allowing for a fan-less configuration.

What you get in this setup is basically a PC mounted at the back of your computer screen; the commercial photographer can certainly take advantage of that.
